Update through the device itself
Operating-system updates can fix security problems and software bugs. Look in your device’s own Settings or its official app store—not a pop-up claiming that your device is infected.
- Search Settings for software update or system update.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, including power, storage and backup preparation.
- Consider automatic updates when available. Choose a time that works for you.

Use a screen lock you can manage
A screen lock can help protect stored information if a device goes missing. Choose a strong passcode or password you can use, and review supported biometric options if they suit you.
- Find screen-lock and automatic-lock settings.
- Try the change while you have time and trusted help available.
- Keep recovery information in a secure place—not on a public worksheet.
Know where to turn
If your phone goes missing, contact the service provider and follow official recovery guidance. Do not attempt to retrieve stolen property yourself. If a pop-up demands payment or a support call, pause; it may be a tech-support scam.
Try one small step
A little practice, no pressure.
Open Settings and locate the update screen without installing anything yet. Check the official device instructions and plan a suitable time for the next update.
